THE DOME

Situated in the secure CAmdeboo Conservancy

To be in the camdeboo conservancy  is to glimpse infinity. For this is a place of silence, stillness and space.

Here where the views unfold forever, The Karoo Dome lies beneath the craggy Camdeboo mountain range,

25 minutes drive from the quaint and historic town of Graaff-Reinet.

Come glamping on a holistically-managed farm in a secure conservancy, 76,000 hectares of natural unspoilt beauty.

Unwinding here means buying a breath of fresh air.  It means taking hold of infinity.

Glamping is camping, just more generous.

The Karoo Dome allows you to connect with the serenity of this semi-desert without sacrificing modern comforts.

Whether you are seeking time-out, a peaceful retreat or a unique getaway The Karoo Dome is the perfect destination to relax and soak up  .........  the infinity.

  • Cold water tub.

  • Ample parking space.

  • Equipped kitchen area with gas cooker, microwave, bar fridge, kettle, crockery, cutlery and utensils (no oven or toaster.)

  • We have natural Karoo game around the dome so we are not pet-friendly.

  • Distance from Graaff-Reinet to Dome: 25 minutes drive.  10km on a tar road and then 19km on a flat, good gravel road into the heart of the Conservancy.

  • No need for a 4x4 vehicle.

  • The valley is secure as entrance into the Conservancy is by appointment only.

  • We are closed during the very hot Summer months but we can have a sneaky hot day creeping in at other times.  We do have an air-con and a cold tub but please bear this potential heat in mind.  After all this is camping!

  • In the unlikely event of torrential rain making the road impassable or Mother Nature working her extreme "magic"  we shall endeavour to accommodate our guests in our guesthouse "The River Bend Cottages" in Graaff-Reinet town or in another suitable guesthouse.  We however cannot promise or guarantee this if the town is unusually full.  We will then refund in full.

  • There are no shops nearby, so please buy all your provisions before you leave Graaff-Reinet.

CHILDREN:

The Dome sleeps 2 adults in a king bed or twin beds.

Two children under 16 sleep on fold-up camping mattresses.

Please note however that there are no activities.  This is a pure "chill-out" spot to relax and soak up the beauty of the Karoo.
